– approx. 30 minutes road transfer from the airport (It offers an adult-oriented atmosphere without children’s facilities, providing an ideal setting for relaxation and disconnection along a serene, expansive white sand beach and some great hiking trails close by).
** Both hotels are located on the eastern, sunrise side of the island, which is known for its windier conditions (especially in the winter months) making it a prime area for kite surfing enthusiasts. Despite the wind, this side boasts the island’s finest beaches.

Requirements: Each passenger travelling, irrespective of age, must have their own, valid passport. All passports must have two blank pages available at time of travel. Time: Rodrigues time is two hours ahead of South African time.
Money: In Rodrigues, the official currency used is the Mauritian Rupee (MUR). It is advisable to carry Mauritian Rupees when visiting Rodrigues for transactions such as shopping, dining, and local tours. Credit cards are accepted at most hotels, larger restaurants, and shops, but it’s recommended to have some cash on hand for smaller establishments and markets that may not accept cards.
Language: English and French. Creole is also widely spoken.
Electricity: The electric current is 220 volts AC, 50Hz. UK-type three-pin plugs are commonly used in hotels.
Security: Rodrigues is generally considered a safe destination for travellers. It has a low crime rate compared to many other tourist destinations. The local population is friendly and welcoming to visitors. However, as with any travel destination, it is always advisable to take common-sense precautions to ensure your safety ie. keep your belongings secure and avoid displaying valuable items in public.
Tipping: Tipping of hotel personnel is not mandatory, but a demonstration of your appreciation for good service is welcomed. Personnel who are deserving of tips are porters, room cleaners and waiters in bars and restaurants who have been particularly helpful. Tipping of transport personnel is also appreciated and drivers of transfer vehicles, tour coach drivers and guides who are deserving of recognition. Tipping should be in local currency.

The island has two distinct seasons: summer, spanning from November to April, with daytime temperatures ranging from 24 to 34 degrees Celsius, and winter, from May to October, with temperatures between 16 and 27 degrees Celsius. Its tropical climate makes Rodrigues a year-round destination, offering favorable conditions for visitors throughout the year.
The east coast, known for its windier conditions, brings a refreshing breeze during summer but can be cooler in winter months. However, global weather patterns are evolving, so these conditions may vary.
Similar to Mauritius, the most affordable times for South Africans to travel to Rodrigues are typically during the island’s shoulder seasons (April, May, September and October). During these periods (ideally outside school holidays) accommodation prices are generally lower while the weather remains favourable. Being flexible with your travel dates can also help you find better deals.

When preparing for your trip to Rodrigues, as a guide, keep in mind the luggage allowances: up to 23kg in economy class and 32kg in business class for checked bags. If you purchase a separate ticket to Rodrigues (not as part of your Mauritius package), please bear in mind that the allowance between Mauritius and Rodrigues is 15KG.
