Traveller Declaration

The South African Revenue Service has introduced a new pre arrival digital declaration for all travellers entering or exiting South Africa, effective from 1 July 2026.

What You Need to Know

South Africa’s new digital traveller declaration system applies to all passengers crossing a South African border post. Each traveller must complete the declaration within 24 hours of arrival at the border post. If you are travelling with a child or infant, a parent or legal guardian must complete the declaration on their behalf.

All travellers entering or departing South Africa are required to declare goods, including currency, in line with Section 15 of the Customs and Excise Act. You only need to declare items or currency that exceed your personal travel allowance.

You can complete your declaration and find answers to common questions through the links below:

If you have any questions about the declaration process, please refer to the FAQs above before your trip.
